Consider your inheritance (& tidy your nest)
Wednesday Wisdom from Othala
Hello, Friend, and Happy Wednesday.
Today, here in San Antonio, there is a weather front blowing in. The wind is howling, branches are dancing with raindrops; both are smacking the windows, and the temperature dropped 10 degrees in a matter of about half an hour. As I sat down to draw our rune for the week, I was deeply grateful to be cozied up in my home. As I sat in my space, a little bedroom just off the bathroom, I noticed first my ancestor altar and then the special bits and bobs that I decorate my space with, bits and bobs passed down from my grandparents and parents.
I reached into my rune bag, and when I pulled my hand out, Othala rested in my palm. Othala is the rune of heritage and inheritance. It is the rune of traditions and physical wealth and material goods. It is the rune of ancestral land. Today, Othala invites us to do two things over the coming week:
First, look around your space and take stock of the items you've inherited from your family line.
Who do these things come from?
What do the items mean to you?
How do they make you feel?
Do you keep them because you want to, or do you keep them out of a sense of obligation?
Second, tidy up your space. Let your physical home be a sacred space that is a clear container for you, your family, and your dreams.
